Dance with Post:ballet

Post:ballet is a contemporary dance collective based in the Bay Area, CA dedicated to collaborating with diverse artists to explore “what’s next” for ballet in the 21st Century. Post offers several opportunities to train with the company artists, including our annual Post:workshop summer intensives as well as weekly classes at our official school, Berkeley Ballet Theater.

 

Post:workshop 2024 Announced!

Post:workshop (ages 18+)

Post:workshop is a week-long summer intensive designed for advanced pre-professional and professional dancers interested in exploring a modern approach to their classically-based technique. Post:workshop 1 immerses dancers in a physically demanding, emotionally nurturing, and artistically enriching experience led by Artistic Director Robin Dekkers, Associate Artistic Director Moscelyne ParkeHarrison, and Post:ballet company dancers.

Post:workshop will be hosted at the Berkeley Ballet Theater studios (1370 Tenth Street, Berkeley CA) on Monday August 5 - Saturday August 10, 2024. The Monday-Friday daily schedule is outlined below (subject to change):

10:00-11:30am, Class with Robin Dekkers (contemporary ballet) and Moscelyne ParkeHarrison (contemporary)

11:45am-1:45pm, Post:ballet repertoire with Robin Dekkers and company dancers

1:45-2:30pm, Lunch

2:30-4:30pm, Choreography with Moscelyne ParkeHarrison

There will classes, rehearsal, and an informal, free, in-studio showing on Saturday, August 10 at 3:00pm for dancers’ friends and families.

Enrollment is by invitation only and is limited to 32 dancers. Dancers must be 18 years of age by August 1, 2024 to participate in this program.

Dancers interested in attending Post:workshop are asked to send a resume, head shot, and online work sample (not to exceed 3 minutes in length, and to include performance footage and in-studio improv material) for consideration no later than April 15, 2024. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance on April 20, 2024. Tuition is $760 for the week.

SCHOOL

Post:ballet is the official company of Berkeley Ballet Theater, a renowned pre-professional ballet school and adult dance community founded in 1980 and developed by Artistic Director Emerita, Sally Streets. Now led by Artistic Director Robin Dekkers, named “25 to Watch” by DANCE Magazine, BBT is dedicated to providing exceptional training in a nurturing environment to dancers of all ages.

Both Post:ballet and Berkeley Ballet Theater share the core values of artistic excellence, inclusivity, passion, and imagination, and each organization is dedicated to using its programming to actively cultivate community. As the official company of BBT, Post now has a permanent home in Berkeley at 1370 Tenth Street, enabling the company to amplify its impact by sharing artistic experiences and collaborative performances with audiences on both sides of the bay. Post’s creative team, with support from the administrative team at BBT as well as both organization’s communities of artists and arts lovers, is taking the company’s interdisciplinary programming to the next level as it enters its second decade of presenting new works here in the Bay Area and beyond.
